Music Styles in The Greenlands

Music of the Greenlands comprises five basic types. The most pure form is Celtic and Nordic folk music, which is still being played and created, today. There is an updating of this music in the present day, which has given rise to the term 'Celto / Nordic Rock', proponents of which include such groups as Faun and Clannad. A further development of this sound, especially with regard to ecological / spiritual subject matter, and a leaning to the ambient / minimalist style, can be seen in such musicians as Enya, and Loreen McKennit, and is generally called New Age music. Another source of music for The Greenlands is medieval music: both secular and sacred. Finally, there is large-scale deliberate, usually orchestral, fantasy composition that can be found as fantasy film sound tracks and fantasy style instrumental albums.
